Offbeat space experiments

Astronaut Koichi Wakata, who has been living aboard the International Space Station since mid-March, has carried out a series of offbeat space experiments proposed by the Japanese public.

In addition to attempting various physical exercises and gymnastics (including calisthenics, push-ups, flips, twirls, cartwheels, overhead soccer kicks, and swimming), Koichi folds clothes, rides a “magic carpet,” squirts water from a syringe, puts eyedrops in his eye, and attempts to propel himself through the room by flapping a fan. He also enlists the help of a fellow astronaut for some arm wrestling, hand-shaking, slap sumo, and tug of war.

Wing Lounge Chair - The Only NASA Certified Chair

This chair is notable in two ways. One, it's the largest single piece of bendwood used to make a chair, and two, it's the only chair tested by NASA and certified by The Space Foundation.

Of course, it's also a sweet chair. It's a lot like the Eames Lounge Chair. Your body is cushioned by open cell visco elastic memory foam, used on NASA's spacecrafts, and looks conducive to some serious nap action.

NASA To Reveal ISS Node Name On Colbert's Show This Tuesday

The mystery and pseudo-controversy surrounding the ISS's unnamed node ends this Tuesday, when astronaut Sunita Williams will go on The Colbert Report to tell the world what NASA has decided to do.

It will probably not end well for the social media savvy Stephen Colbert, whose dedicated fan base was able to trounce the four "official" names that NASA provided. NASA has all but confirmed that the node will be named Serenity, which was the top vote getter amongst the NASA-sanction entries.

However, rumor is Colbert might still get his wish, sort of, as Comedy Central is pimping the Colbert Report NASA appearance as evidence of the fact that the stuffy government space agency is going to bestow a named toilet on cable's most outspoken fake news commentator.
